UL Safety, we at All Kids Lamps LLC, design lighting but also resell other companies lighting. We have been researching this market for while and found that there are still many childrens lamps out there that are NOT UL Listed, which means the lamps have not been tested to United States safety standards for fire, electric shock and personal injury.
After contacting many manufactures and resellers with the question "does this lamp have a UL certification?" We had some answer "yes, all the parts of the lamp is UL listed."
So you as a consumer feel safe knowing that not only was this lamp inspected but also the manufacturer has had many inspections at their factory....WRONG!!
Let us explain: yes all the parts may be UL Listed....but
So Lamp factory X had bought some UL listed parts of factory B and some wire of factory C and needed some bulbs from factory D. Factory X put all those parts together and resells the lamp. Who checks if the wiring is done correctly? No one, facory X could sell these lamps without warning/instruction labels as well.
This is the right way: Lamp Factory Z has UL Listing for their lamps. The factory has to create a lamp following the Nationally recognized USA safety standards of Underwriters Laboratories (UL). This lamp is inspected and tested by UL and UL also requires that all warning labels are in the right spot.
Underwriters Laboratories also performs factory audit inspections to be sure that the factory continues to make lamps that comply with our U.S. safety standards. UL then allows the factory to apply UL Listing Marks that says “Portable Luminaire” to the lamps that compley with the safety requirements. If a lamp does not have this UL Listing Mark on it, the lamp is NOT UL Listed.
Now you can be confident that the lamp is built safely.
